Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity has just announced its iconic Santa Fun Run will return for the 12th consecutive year on Sunday 5 December.
The annual event was held virtually in 2020, but the charity has confirmed the fun run will be a live event again in 2021 at Colchester Castle Park.
Participants have the choice of running, jogging or walking 5km or 3km around the picture perfect park whilst doing something amazing for their local NHS charity.
The Santa Fun Run is suitable for all ages and abilities and it’s a really fun way to set a new personal best run time, or simply enjoy being with family and friends in the lead up to Christmas. Limbering up for the run this year are the physiotherapy team from Colchester Hospital.
Senior physiotherapist Joshua Poole said: “We are really looking forward to the Santa Fun Run. It’s a great opportunity for us to get out in the fresh air, get moving and fundraise for our department. We love what we do and as a team we are always thinking about ways to make things even better for our patients. NHS funding only goes so far which is why the charity and support from the community is so vital to us.
“It’s with your donations we have been able to acquire specialist manual handling equipment, seating and aids that can enable patients to be more independent in our Trust. Now we have plans to look at additional technology that will help promote our patients physical activity levels, whilst in our care.”
When you take part in the Santa Fun Run you can fundraise for any hospital, ward, department or appeal that that’s part of East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT). This includes Colchester, Ipswich, Clacton, Harwich and Felixstowe hospitals, as well as many community settings.
Whether its physiotherapy, the Children’s Department, breast cancer or another area that’s closest to your heart, there will be a dedicated fund for you to support. Senior fundraising manager Angie Tillett said: “It’s been a strenuous 18 months for the NHS, but now we can safely meet in person again we really want to see a record-breaking number of Santas taking part this year and we can’t wait!
“If you register by Monday 1 November, you will receive a 10% discount off the registration fee which already includes a free Santa suit so it’s well worth signing up now. The registration fee only covers the cost of the event so we are asking every adult participant to raise at least £30 and children as much as they can. Every penny will make a difference to your local NHS.”
