A NORTH Essex beauty spot has been overrun… by pumpkins.
West Bergholt has been overwhelmed by the orange veggies, which have been ‘planted’ by The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation as part of its spectacular Autumn Fair during half term.
Volunteers and knitting group Knit One Down One have been hand making the knitted pumpkins in time for a special Halloween hunt for the Foundation. Its Autumn Fair will see small traders take up pitches across West Bergholt to entice people with homemade wares, cakes and coffees and specialist gifts – perfect for early bird Christmas gift buyers. Nikki Bowdidge, CEO and Founder of The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation, said: “Whether they’re orange, green or white, the pumpkins are everywhere! Check in bushes, behind trees; they could even be lurking in your front garden and we have got to catch them all.
“Last year’s pumpkin hunt was a huge success for The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation and brought so much spooky fun to West Bergholt. It was lovely to see so many families taking part in the fun. We couldn’t not do it again this year, and our Autumn Fair will really start the event off with a bang.”
Around 100 of the hand knitted vegetables will be hidden throughout West Bergholt for the half term holiday, finishing on Sunday, October 31st.
The fun starts on Saturday, October 23 from 11am to 3pm when the Foundation will be holding its Autumn Fair in West Bergholt.
Autumn Fair trader maps and pumpkin hunt maps, costing £1, can be bought on the day of the fair from 9 Firmins Court, West Bergholt, and Rivendell, Queens Road, West Bergholt. Pumpkin hunters will also be able to find letters on the trail which will then spell out a special Halloween word. Those who correctly find the word will be entered into a special Halloween prize draw.
But entries must be handed in by 3pm on October 31st to 9 Firmins Court, West Bergholt.
Nikki said the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation was continuing to take precautions because of coronavirus. She said: “We are once again asking people not to touch the pumpkins so as to minimize any germs. As always, please do check for latest advice from the Government and put your safety first.”
