PDTTUK supports players with Parkinson’s (PwP) to play table tennis, exploring different ways to engage and support Parkinson’s Table Tennis community.
Working together with PDTTUK, Rowhedge Table Tennis Club (TTC) are looking to promote and enable more opportunities for players to engage in the sport and for those who wish to do so, feel comfortable to progress through to competitive play if they want too.
Approximately 145,000 people in England live with Parkinson’s and it is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. With over 40 symptoms from tremor and freezing to anxiety and depression, it is complex and affects everyone differently.
There is currently no cure but charity Parkinson’s UK says many people often tell them that exercise is just as important as their medication when it comes to managing their symptoms. Research has also shown that doing 2.5 hours of exercise a week can slow the progression of someone’s symptoms.
To that end the team at Rowhedge TTC have set up six session at the club, with the help of Table Tennis England and Active Essex and have members of their coaching team on hand to run the sessions. There is NO requirement to be a Table Tennis Superstar but the team at Rowhedge TTC can help you to enjoy the sport.
If you would like to come down and have a try and see how you get on please contact John Andrews at: john.c.andrews@btinternet.com to book and the sessions are held at Rowhedge Table Tennis Club, Rectory Road, Rowhedge, Colchester CO5 7HX on Saturday 3rd July 2021 from 12-2pm and fortnightly thereafter.
