NaviStitch was opened at 28 High Street, Manningtree by Sam Luxford.
Starting with a pop-up shop hosting 20 other artists and makers, Sam is keen to continue to support other micro businesses by providing a hub for exhibitions and workshops. For the last 6 years, NaviStitch has been run from Ardleigh Studios but the new High Street location provides space to feature other people’s work.
The upstairs rooms known as the ‘Sail Loft’ are available for artist exhibitions, pop-up shops and creative workshops. A full programme is coming together to provide a variety of exhibitions and workshops for people to enjoy and take part in.

Sam’s own work ‘NaviStitch’ is created by hand-stitching on old navigation charts. As well as original art and commissions, NaviStitch also has an extensive range of greetings cards with charts, puns and nautical images.
The shop also has some carefully selected gift items for locals and visitors to the area. The premises is a quirky old building and also gives Sam space to work in, where her workshop is part of the shop so sometimes you can see the creativity in action.
Some creative thinking has also been used in the shop fittings. If you look carefully, you will notice that the shop counter is made from the stern of a repurposed boat. The shelves in the fireplace were once the bow of the boat and the sides frame the top and bottom of the shop window.
